Advanced Lightning Protection, LLC is owned and operated by the Godwin family with four generations specializing in the design, installation and maintenance of certified Lightning Protection Systems. A J Godwin Sr. started installing Lightning Rods on homes and farms in the late 1890's in North Carolina. A J had four sons, A J Jr, Les, Robert and John, who followed him in the trade. John Godwin with his brothers expanded their territory to include Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio and Alabama.

John's two sons John Jr and Don became the installers for the company providing farms and homes across the south with Lightning Protection. Don had four daughters and a son, Don Jr. They both worked in lightning protection until their Passing. John Jr left the family business in 1965 to start managing the Commercial jobs for Modern Lightning Protection in Raleigh NC. During this time he designed and oversaw the Lightning Protection on such jobs like Magic Kingdom WDW and the Super Dome. In 1974 John purchased the southern most contracts from Modern and returned to the family business.

Before retirement John and his sons (John 3rd (Jay) and Ken) installed Lightning Protection in over 40 States. Ken and Jay continue the family tradition of providing quality Lightning Protection Systems.
